Today, I have teamed up with wilko to share with you some of my tips on how to make your university room feel a little more like home, and how I made the transition into my independent lifestyle a lot easier without breaking my bank account.

I moved out of my home and into university halls two years ago and I remember feeling like that bedroom wasn't mine. It didn't feel cosy and it didn't feel like home. It takes time to feel comfortable in a new environment, but there are a few easy tricks you can do to hurry things along and wilko have got you covered...

1. Make it cosy.

There's something about soft furnishings that give a bedroom a safe, comforting feel. I am a huge blanket lover and would have hundreds if I had the room, but for now, I will stick with 3. I love snuggling up with a soft blanket after a long day at uni, I find it soothing and it's super important to have down time as well as having fun with all of the new friends you're going to be making! I picked out this Natural Herringbone Throw which is only £8.00! The Round Basket is also from wilko (£5.00), and I am still deciding whether to keep it as a cute feature in my room or use it as a regular washing basket.

2. Add some fairy lights.

Most university halls won't allow you to burn candles for obvious reasons, but popping up some fairy lights in your room will give warmth and they are such a lovely addition to any bedroom (especially in the winter months).

3. Spruce up your desk.

You will more than likely be spending a big portion of your time sat at your desk, so why not make it more enjoyable? Spruce it up with cute notebooks, stationery, photo frames and plants. Having stationery that you actually like will motivate you and encourage you to get your work done! Because I'm a stationery junkie, I also picked up these BIC 'fun pens' (£1.50), to colour co-ordinate my diary and desk planner, some wilko pens (£1) and some post it notes (£1.50) to fully prepare myself for this coming term. Then, when I am done working for the day, I can pop it all away in this super affordable pencil pouch (£2.00).

4. Make a memory wall.

Although some university accommodation won't allow you to stick things on the walls, it's highly likely you will have a pin board or somewhere you can put up photos. Although you will be making new memories, it's reassuring to have photos of friends and family and cute inspirational quotes on the wall. Collect postcards and print out images online to make your very own memory wall.

5. A cup of tea fixes (almost) everything.

I'm honestly not sure there is anything more comforting than a good old fashioned cuppa. Whether that's with friends in the kitchen, or on your own in your room, it's important to have that home-from-home comfort. If you don't like tea, you might prefer coffee or hot chocolate but nothing comes closer to a hug than a warm beverage. Make sure you take a selection of mugs to uni with you! One may get broken, you may lend one to a friend so 3 would probably be a sufficient number. I love this cute pink speckled mug (£4.00), I think it looks super trendy!

If you're moving away from home for the first time to university or college, make sure you check out wilko's website or take a trip into one of their stores to get yourself some affordable, stylish pieces to make your room feel a little more like home!
